I am working on installing me 1st sound port. I am wondering what type of designs people normally do. Let's see your sound port pictures. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Just a simple oval for me, but folks always seem to think its where electronics will be installed. The fancy shapes take away that impression, although I opt for simplicity, for ease of sanding and finishing.

These are all beautiful and very nicely executed. Are your sound ports cut with the use of a jig or cut free hand?

Yes.

For ovals, I use a template. This makes it easier to bind if you so choose to as well.

For other shapes like f-holes, crosses, etc. I would cut it free hand.

I do mine free hand with a laminate trimmer. I do glue a paper pattern on first.

Is there a routing jig that works on a completed box?

Todd, What do you use to make the cut? Router with a guide ring and a 1/8 bit?

And a thank you to all.

Thanks. I designed that and used it on that rim set then found that PeterM (I think it was) had already done something similar with his guitars - so I can't claim that I originated it.
