Saw one at the auto shop this morning . Was thinking of spraying small amount of water based poly on uke .If it worked could use it for touchups. What has been your experience??

I tried it with KTM-SV and I got bad results, a splattered inconstant coat. I did not try using it very long, so I cannot say it can not be made to work.

Yeah, hard to get an even coat. But I did manage to successfully finish over a dozen guitars with them before I snapped and got an HVLP. Might not be too bad for a uke...

They don't seem to like water based coatings. Work great with lacquers and shellac. I have used them for years for cabinet touch-ups in the field with good results. Will even do high solids varnish if you know how to thin the material out so it will spray without sagging.

I just used one quite successfully to spot finish and overspray an old Martin neck.
As per above I used nitrocellulose lacquer.

I know many have used them successfully, but my experience quite a few years ago was not good. They tend to spit and don't atomize very well. Granted I didn't try it many times before I broke down and bought a spray unit. This was using nitro.

The web site suggests that for water based paints and acrylics, thin at a 3:2 ratio.
