This is all just irrelevant speculation. I would say it was clearly a case of trying to shake a sheet metal sound out of a guitar top. duh

I feel your pain, except that I had this happen AFTER I had the top on the guitar, did the binding and purfling, etc.

Not for the same reason, but I have had to use up to 3 tops on a single guitar due to my goof-ups!

That's funny - I have a size 0 that I used 3 tops on - also didn't break but... oops_sign

it seems we have a trend here. in my 1st guitar i had to go through 3 tops too, and one of those i had to rejoin - it ended up with an horrible center seam.
