A handy, simple tip for this Christmas eve:

I like the 3M Stikit Gold PSA sandpaper that comes on rolls. I felt like I needed a better way of keeping the rolls from being a disorganized nuisance, so I took a wooden paper towel holder (the kind meant to be hung on a wall) and converted it to a Stikit dispenser.

I would have used Alex Kleon's excellent tin can tape dispenser idea, but with the Stikit that I have, some of the rolls have an inner cardboard tube the size of what you would see with masking tape or gaffer tape, but others have a much smaller hole, like the size of a roll of paper towels. I think I bought the "big hole" versions at StewMac, but bought the "small hole" version someplace else.

This gives me four grits of Stikit (80, 120, 220, 320) all handy and ready to go. Just cut off the right length with scissors, mash the appropriate sanding block down on the paper, and Bob's your uncle.

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, I wish you all a beautiful weekend.

That looks really handy, and rather more elegant than tin cans! Having all your rolls in the same place would certainly cut down on the "where the.....are they" factor!
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Don!

Alex

Well, it's store bought, which feels like a cop out, but it's re-purposed, so maybe that counts for something. In any event, it gets the rolls all in one spot, in the right order, right there wherever I need them. Feels like progress.

Of course, I had to buy a different cheap paper towel dispenser to replace this one, because I previously used this thing for its intended purpose. I can't tolerate the paper towel roll just sitting there.

I'll bet Hesh would have appreciated the idea when he was building guitars in his bathroom!
