I've finished building a thickness sander and have a problem. I ordered a roll of 2" self adhesive 80 grit
Paper as recommended by a couple of forum members. The adhesion has failed several times. The flapping will definitely get your attention. I made the discs from HDF and sealed the entire roller with a fast drying clear acrylic sealer from a spray can. I let it dry for several hours. No joy. I do recall someone using a Velcro set up, but can't locate it with Google. Can anyone steer me to the supplier? Thanks.

https://www.woodworkingshop.com/search. ... loop+rolls
Try this or search for "hook and loop"
You might also consider having some type of clip to hold the ends of the paper below the surface of the drum. This way you could use regular rolls.( non psa or velcro)

We have tried all types of abrasive on our drum sanders and without question Zirconia (80g) works the best and more importantly lasts three or four times longer. I recommend taking the time to design your sander to use standard abrasives if for no other reason to take the advantage of the Zirconia, seem the choices with HL are very limited and expensive. Good suggestion above for the mechanical fasteners, there are others on line.

Actually I used 1" filament reinforced packaging tape on a shop made unit many years ago -- I got the idea from Grizzly since this was how it was held in place on one of their models. Maybe still is?

Same here but I get away with the Stew Mac binding tape. Has never let go and easy to pull off.

I use the velcro backed sand paper (hook & loop) and got from "onlineindustrial" supply. Come to think of it, you could probably just run a band of masking tape around the drum in several places then coat with superglue and roll your sandpaper around that. Then the only thing stuck to the drum is the masking tape.

Grizzled sells a kit to convert a drum sander to hook & loop. I used it to successfully convert my 16" drum sander. I strongly recommend it. To
