UPDATE!!!!! I have fitted my Ridgid compact router with an adapter sleeve ( Rockler $9 ) and rebuilt my slotting setup with some birch plywood to have a more uniform platform. Practicing on some macassar ebony scrap I was able to get a very nice slot of .130 with the downcut bit and .135 with the upcut cut. Beautifully uniform and controllable. Stew Mac has a bone saddle blank for a Gibson that is 9/64 thick ( .140 ) that will fit nicely with a little help. The fear of slotting is a thing of the past. I did have to use an offset 17mm combo wrench to tighten the nut on the router to keep bit from pulling out. Learned the hard way of course but didn't break an expensive bit. The OLF saves the day again. Thanks.
