I think this may generate more interest if you could clearly document that it was pre-ban CITES approved Brazilian cardboard.

You know how tough those FWS fellows are - don't want your next "Luthier Tips Dujure" showing a video of O'Brien guitars being raided by black clad machine-gun toting SWAT over undocumented cardboard

I mean any more - everybody and their brother has a Brazilian uncle that has a 300 year old barn full of "blackbeam" cardboard....

My own foray into the "cardboard guitar" oeuvre was using Alpi lignum - a prefinished veneer coated phenolic impregnated cardboard. Fun stuff!
Everyone should build at least one "cardboard" guitar, if for no other reason than to see how the most expensive parts of the guitar (back and sides) contributes much less to the sound than some believe.

Basically just build a frame and wrap cardboard around it. That is it.

So what are we supposed to think when the guitar playing public and even us luthiers gives credence to one type of 'tone' wood over another when you can just use cardboard?

That is the best sounding tone cardboard I ever heard.

Different woods can change the sound to a certain extent but as shown the top is the big ape in the room. Just because the guitar sounds good does not mean the back and side woods have no effect.

Great video. I have seen a couple other folks do it, but yours looks amazing. I am really thinking about trying one. After all, I have no shame, I just built an electric with plywood and stained bondo. (Posted in the electric forum).
