What is your philosophy regarding whether the upper tone bar should or should not touch the bridge plate? It seems that some do... and some don't... I do. Should I reconsider?

My brace layout is slightly different than most. I place my upper tone bar so it butts up to the bridge plate almost at the centre of the bridge plate, and actually I couple all the braces to each other by butting to one of the braces.

I think it important that the whole top work together and by not coupling each brace to the next there is a disconnect between everything that produces sound from the top.

As to your specific question, I do couple the upper tone bar to the bridge plate...as mentioned.

I don't doubt that Rod has great results with his bracing formula. I've had extremely positive results from this pattern, a variation on the system developed by my teacher and former employer. In this case it's for my OM model. As you can see, I'm a non-tucker. And a non-scalloper. Of course, I adjust the bracing height & location depending on the body size and whether it's a 6 or 12.

You guys are too kind, but I'm just a noob in the craft with only 12 guitars under my belt.

This is my latest bracing patter which I've done with about 50% of my guitars. I've tried the Somogyi double x thing as well as the tapered vs scalloped thing....my best sounds (subjective to my ears) has been this one here.

I'll even give the profile pics.

Gorgeous top, Rod. And something tells me that went on a cutaway.

Michael, that looks a bit like the Lowden bracing style....?

And nice looking top. Cedar or redwood?

Yes, that was on a cutaway :)

Upper most Transverse gave that away I'm sure.
