A guy called me asking if I used "bone" glue. I see there is such a thing. Anyone had any experience with it vs. hide glue?

He said it was supposed to be stronger than hide.

Never heard of it. But it is close to Halloween after all.

From Fine-Tools.com

"Bone glue, made of animal bones, as the name suggests, was in general use among cabinetmakers for centuries. Bone was ground into powder, dissolved in water, evaporated and dried into a hard jelly. Bone glue is completely safe and environmentally benign. ..."

It smells like s*&^ and the smell can be a huge turn off.... It's often sold in Europe as "Pearl glue" and although it has a higher or can have a higher gram strength than HHG it's also known as kind of like the Upton Sinclair hotdog of his day. More specifically all manner of body parts not just bone can be mixed in likely having something to do with the sewer like smell.

I have some 25 yr old stock . of bone HHG, but prefer like todd stock 315 g HHG for bridges, ye
olde cabinet shoppe and a few conservator furn. places sell it. 315 is an excellent glue for restoration , but has a fast tack time , extended by heating the bridge on a thin omega bending blanket

Thanks all. Been using hide for a long time, think I'll skip the bone.
