Can someone suggest a polishing compound safe for Varnish (Enduro-Var). I want to test some ideas. I have the McGuires Swirl remover, but it never seems very effective to me. Maybe I'm using it wrong...

(I apply, and use a cotton mushroom pad to work it)

Mike what's your objective a very high shine or removing swirl and/or fine scratches?

McGuires also makes a fine cut cleaner that is slightly more aggressive than the swirl remover and yes you are using it as I would.

Recently we tried some of the polishes that Jescar is selling on their consumer web site and we liked them a lot - more than McGuires.

Take any of this with a grain of salt, you qualified, rightly your question with the mention of Enduro-var which is something that I doubt that we've ever encountered before so we can't know in the case of Enduro.

In my experience, compounding by hand isn't very effective on most surfaces, especially if you are trying to get a mirror shine. I use the foam pads that you chuck in a power drill (available at most auto parts stores). I think stewmac sells them too, which is where I got the idea 25 years ago.

I don't know about Endurovar but I've had the best luck by wet sanding with Micro Mesh to 6000 then polishing by hand with Novus #1. This is on Royal Lac.
