Thanks again for all the nice compliments. I was able to snap a few more pics this morning. This was my first effort at adding purfling to a fingerboard and headstock. It's not perfect, but I think it turned out pretty well. The top has a little discoloration below the treble edge of the bridge. I don't mind that sort of natural variation and it can help reduce costs, so it's fine by me.

Anytime a post has White Oak in the title line, I'm a sucker. Good job!

I've got a White Oak/Lutz size 0 in the works. I'm looking forward to it.

A fine guitar George, elegant and understated.
I look forward to the close-ups, and some details of the finishing might be coming? That's a lovely stain job.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Very nice George, lovely work!
Seems as though no one else bothered to ask, but how do YOU like the tonal qualities of white oak that are developing?

They say that if you want to copy someone, at least make sure you copy someone good; I think you made a good choice... Of course, next we'll be expecting complex hand made purflings, vintage style slot heads, oh and don't forget to dye the oak! ;-) Seriously, I think you made a very nice guitar, regardless of influences, keep it up!

George: That is a beauty......! Love your sense of style.......Some folks have it ,others struggle, me in the latter camp. Surprised at your neck wood, not sure if I've seen that before, but it sure looks nice. Again CONGRATS.

Thank you all so much! The kind support offered here is really quite extraordinary and greatly appreciated.

Haans - I wish it weren't true, but I am terrible at describing tone. The words I use may not have the same meanings for others, but I would say this guitar has a roundness and warmth to its voice. It's gentle, not brash, with a relatively even balance that is neither bass heavy nor bright and jangly. I would describe it's tone as being sweet and lilting, actually, which is a bit of a surprise to me as I was anticipating more of a bluesy bite. I'm still too inexperienced to know for sure, but I imagine the OM shape and Lutz top are more responsible for this than the choice of using white oak for the back and sides.
