Looks like Shorea spp. to me (common names meranti, lauan, etc.). The particular species will determine how useful it is and that will be pretty hard to determine exactly. Your pictures seem to show both of what I would call dark red meranti and light red meranti. It seems that a batch of timber could contain both fairly indiscriminately. The dark red stuff works fine for necks, the light red less so (more brittle).

Check out this thread. That guitar is 3 years old and is going great.

Also used in great quantities in the necks of S.E. Asian made guitars, most of which do fine.
