Another one that hasn't spread across the internet yet.

Over time, the sap wood on the back will learn to respond to the owner's playing. That was told to a player by his builder.

You heard it here first.

"Master" Luthier. If you bake a D-28 at a very low temp for 24 hrs., it will result in a pre-war sound.

Glen, you're too modest...

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

...which reminds me...

Now Lagavulin I can get behind. A bit salty for me, but still great. Today, my favorite is Ardbeg Uigeadail...but that could change tomorrow. It was Lagavulin for a while. So hard to settle. Hmm, what shall tonight's dram be?

I think the only Jura I ever had (knowingly) was the superstition with the ankh on the bottle.

Certainly a very memorable flavor, though I'd be hard pressed to describe it. I do recall it being a stand alone category.

Now that you mention it Hesh, I do recall reading about a late, well-known electric guitar player who could differentiate between the brands of battery in his effects pedals.

years ago i was an apprentice tech at a ultra high end guitar rental shop in la. of the many wacky things my boss said the best was that he could hear the difference in which direction the cable was going from guitar to amp. amazing spot to be in though. place was like a museum of guitars and amps and anyone who came to la to record would rent from there.

laughing6-hehe Yeah now that you reminded me I heard of that guy too. Such a talent to be capable of discerning the nomenclature of the electrons..... :D

Hope that all is well with ya M8 and Happy Holidays!

Patch that store or rental outfit that you worked in sounds like heaven to me - tons of vintage stuff - very cool! Cord direction DOES make a difference though....... :D [headinwall] [headinwall] [headinwall]

Two common ones that just won't die - ground loops in electric guitars, and nut slots should only be the depth of half the string.

How about, "there's a huge difference in sound between a D-28 and a HD-28."

Yeah, that herringbone binding really brings out the tone.

RIght - no.

We know who started this notion and it was very well intended but there are lots of players who can knock a string out of a half-height nut slot. The specific instrument comes into play too with a good example being the G strings on Fender style necks when a second set of string trees is not present. Pretty easy to knock the string out and not good in a performance either...
