Hi folks,

It has been quite some time since I've posted here as my career has been taking a steep turn this summer. I'm closing down the shop and am getting back into software design, which is what I was doing before I jumped in as a full time luthier.

The information I have gathered here is not only invaluable, but has allowed me to be a better luthier, and supply my customers with much better guitars that if I hadn't enountered the OLF.

So I think saying goodbye and thank you is the least I should do. So, thank you all for your much appreciated help throughout my 8 years of being a full time luthier!

On a side note, I'm selling some of my stash. So you might want to look at the classifieds if you are looking for some wood (everything is at least 3 years old).

Cheers, everyone!

Sorry to hear your having to shut up shop Alain, your work has always been an inspiration.
Best of luck in your resumed career!

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Alain, you're a great guy and thanks for all your input here over the years. All the best with the software job. Make sure you keep getting in your shop!

And don't say goodbye, just see ya later!

Sorry it didn't work for you, Alain. Building and repair is no cakewalk. It's a very frugal existence for the vast majority. We all hate to see it happen to anyone.
Also sorry the forum didn't work. Seemed like it turned into a repair forum. I guess most builders keep their "cards" pretty close to the chest. I hope you can continue to build a few.
I know one day I will have to quit just because of my health. Not looking forward to that day...
I hope things work out for you Alain.

Good luck with everything in the future Alain!

Having seen your guitars in person I can personally attest to the amazing quality! Sad to see you are 'leaving the biz' But happy that you are following your heart. Hope to see a few more in the future though!

Bests wishes

Joel.

I think it was a typo 'u' in instead of 'i' = invaluable. Good luck.

Thanks again guys!

I appreciate you kind words about either my work or my input on this forum.

Steve, it wasn't a typo, just a mistake... ;)

Alain,
Don't you have any interest in dabbling at lutherie a little? You must have had a pretty intense interest to actually make it a full time thing. Unless you are burnt out... Seems like a shame to completely stop doing it with all that experience.
