I can't say that the aesthetics of this guitar that is on ebay do much for me, but the beveled edges all the way around the top and back with the abalone inlay are interesting from a how-was-it-done point of view. I'm wondering how the joints between the abalone inlay and the top and sides would have been made. Did it involve mitering or was there some other trick? I'm also wondering how the builder got the abalone to follow the curved surface. Can real abalone be bent like that?

Say now...got dials and buttons too. So much for straight line string pull.
Probably has 1" kerfing all the way around. Looks like a 45 bevel bit and mother of toilet seat abalone. Nice...

I can see how the 45 bevel bit would work, but how you would get from there to having the abalone inlaid with purfling. If you ran a 45 bevel bit around the edge, the edges of the top and sides would be left with 45 degree angles on them and no recess to drop the purfling and abalone into.

Slap down a layer of black plastic and lay the MOTS over that.

I've heard of a moustache bridge - but this one looks more like the full mutton chops!

Oh my God, no! NOT mine. As I said in the first post, the aesthetics don't do much for me. That's out of the box and into the next state or possibly the next country.

Perhaps this would be a good Halloween prop....?

Maybe the edge MOTS, purfling, etc. are all one unit. Basically MOTS with white then black plastic under it. The bevel was made with 1" kerfed lining and then 45 degree bit, and the whole unit is glued to the bevel and sanded off, making it look like there's purfling.

The big square EQ knob is a dead giveaway that this guitar is meant for department stores, not serious musicians or collectors.

I think Gibson has a Les Paul that is completely covered in MOP...
