Steve ; ......I had a bridge failure on a recent build. I can not condemn the product, and am not seeking to warn anyone off..... just my small contribution to the topic. I later tried this same bottle on a test glue up to check further and , had failure again. When the bridge / glue up failed (on the guitar) it damaged the finish also, and I was just permanently turned off to the glue. I prepared the bridge and surface, and all conditions / methods the same, but using Titebond.....and I had no problem.

I have no idea , why some have no problem at all....and some do. I've been a woodworker for 40 yrs....so I'm not clueless here.

Michael

Not sure where this "put it in the refrigerator" comes from....LMI told me they do not recommend doing this.

The fridge is for the old white glue, not the new yellow glue. It extends it's shelf life. LMI don't recommend the fridge for the new yellow glue.

Peter and brazil66 (or anyone else) - Could you describe the failures that you had with the new glue?

I had a failure of one of the joints in the heel stack. Was carving the heel and it popped. Soon realised that the threaded insert was smack bang on the glue line.

I switched over last summer. 8 guitars since then with the new glue and no problems whatsoever. Seems to set up a bit faster which is fine with me.

I've just had a bridge pull up after two weeks of having been glued. I've never had a bridge come loose before with many hundreds of LMI white glue, hide glue, and titebond reglues under my belt. I am concerned.

Hi Everyone,
I've heard just one other similar complaint like this. After we heard it, we did more tests (the glue was tested extensively already, before we started selling it) and could not duplicate a failure. We have sold well over 1,000 bottles since we introduced the glue, so our confidence remains high. Still, if any of you would like to email me more details, we are eager to learn more.

I'm curious what testing has been conducted on your adhesives, and would like to see some published data. ASTM D-905 at room temp , 150F, and perhaps even 180 would be nice (to give a rough benchmark on creep performance.) Shore A hardness would back up more performance claims. To really beat stiffness testing to death, I've always wanted to run a series of laminated boards assembled used various adhesives under a 3-point load to determine the impact on modulus.

I've worked in the adhesives industry, most recently for Franklin (makers of titebond). That's one reason I enjoy the technical details.
