Hello everyone. I'm starting on my second 000. I've decided to use yellow cedar for the top, and walnut for the back and sides. I was writing for opinions on final top thickness for cedar, and any other tips any one has with these two woods.

Idk, but I have some AYC and it's nothing like WRC. More like spruce or even harder.

Jimmy, I just put strings on one that I had sitting around unfinished so cant remember exactly - but I think I left the top a little thicker than spruce but not quite as thick as I would with WRC, maybe around 2.5mm. I read somewhere that yellow cedar makes a good flat picking guitar and I tried to make a finger picking L00 so I tried to develop the bass by scalloping the x on the bass side and thinning the top behind the bridge
I paired mine with English Walnut and I think the pairing sounds great together. The top I used had very tight grain and was stiffer than anything I have used before so I braced it particularly light

I've done a couple with yellow cwdar and love the results. My tops ended up being very slightly thicker than my spruce tops tend be, though my last one was sold as a back due to being very dense and stiff and I took it down to. 110". Which is right around where my spruce toos usually come in.

YC top on the tenor uke in my OLF moniker sounds great ,

I can't comment on the thickness of your top, but I love walnut and I sure want to see this instrument when you complete it!
