Hello friends
i have got one source of african blackwood logs in india.
but they are not too big to quarter cut for fretboards.
can we use flatcut african black wood for fretboards or back and sides
it will yield 3 or 4 pc flat cut back and sides.
are they stable?
if anyone needs them . pls pm me

Cut then up for binding, much easier to use than ebony bindings and a bit more valuable.

It's probably ok. According to the numbers on wood-database.com, blackwood's expansion rates are very low. The width change should still be less than quartersawn African ebony.

I would think flat sawn African blackwood would be fine for a fingerboard or body
