Hello friends.
hows everyone is doing?
friends i have started building student grade guitars of laminated back and sides with solid top
i m using ABS bindings on the guitar.
i have glued the binding with normal white wood glue.
but while flushing the binding with scraper the binding got unglued.
so i tried to open the binding more but all the binding came off
may i know what type of glue to use for ABS bindings for tight joints.?
thanks in advance

i set up so I sand the sides to the binding rather than scraping binding to the sides. I use Duco cement or weld on.

You need to use Weldon or plastic cements to glue ABS. PVA glue does NOT bond to ABS at all!

Some have used CA. Tape it in place and wick thin CA in. You can also try this with Weldon #3 or methylene chloride. The weldon will melt the ABS and wick it into the pore of the wood, creating a good bond.

PVA glue only works for wood bindings.

I used Duco and Weldon in the past but now prefer LMI's FCA binding glue. It bushes on, is way less messy and adheres very well.

No kidding I've seen guitars sold at Walmart and other big box stores that were completely assembled with hot melt glue.

I used JBweld on my first, and it worked very well. I used binding tape alone (no wraps) and so far seem to have excellent stick. Only thing, the glue was difficult to wipe away under the tape, so there was a fair amount of scraping/sanding required to clean up the sides. This made me question also (as bluescreek mentioned) my leaving the binding proud in order to scrape it flush. Since I have to scrape the sides to remove glue squeeze-out, why not do it that way? After thinking about it, I decided to try and mate up the binding to the sides as equally as possible, so I only have to scrape either one just a little bit, or maybe both just a little. Also learned NOT to trust tinted laquer to antique the binding. It is the first thing to come off and leave white spots when sanding!

sorry to ramble...but at a stage where there's nothing to do but sit on this dang computer!

New to the forum but I saw this and thought I would suggest a different method of ABS to wood. Everyone at the meetings in Australia I attend use epoxy or CA. I used acetone. I brushed it on the ABS and held it in place.
I was told it would come off but after 2 years of heavy use its still there.

I saw this on youtube before doing it on scrap wood to test. The ABS gets soft and bonds with the wood. I did get a little on the outer edge but after leaving it for an hour I could gently scrape it smooth.
I use titebond for wood on wood
