I built an OM shaped acoustic steel string for a gentleman for recording primarily and provided him with a TKL Professional series hardshell case. He has decided to travel with this guitar and wants a recommendation for a case that will provide better protection. In the past I have used Ameritage Silver Series cases for instruments that will travel. Can anyone offer a suggestion or alternative that has proven to provide excellent protection for an instrument?

Some option you might want to consider

Hiscox - http://www.hiscoxcases.com/index.htm

Hoffee - http://www.carbonfibercases.com

Calton - http://www.calton-cases.com

Hiscox has their Pro II series that starts at around $300. A number of my customers have traveled with them. The Artist Series from Hiscox comes in around $550 and offer a stronger case. Hoffee and Calton both offer great cases, but they come at a price.

Personally, I like the Hiscox Pro II better than the more expensive Artist version. Artist is swankier inside, and may have a bit thicker skin, and fatter hardware, but you can stand on either of them. Pretty nice cases.

I too like the Hiscox Pro II cases. Much easier carrying one of those through the airport than an Ameritage.
