Hey guys check out the link for a neck angle calculator.

It sure would have made getting the neck angle right easier on my last guitar knowing this existed. Takes the guess work out determining the right angle for flat top and radiused guitars. And there's a good explanation of why you need the angle.

I ran some numbers on this and it appears it is assuming you don't have any angle built into the top. It won't work for me

Really?? It has a box to input the hieght of the top at the bridge. It's set .5 or a half inch when you load the page. So far it has worked for me. I make flat tops so entering 0 helped me get the angle just right.

I can see where it would work. My only problem is knowing the increase in top height before the thing is assembled. I suppose you could just lay the top on a flat surface and measure. That would assume your rims are flat on top. I'll give it a try on my next build and see where it takes me

It's not as big of a deal on an electric guitar since the neck angle can be increased (if necessary) on a bolt on neck strat by shimming the neck pocket, but on a neck through guitar it's essential to get it right the first time.

It does allow for dome in the soundboard by entering the change in height from neck to bridge.

pretty handy. Saves me the time trying to find my calculator. I always double check with a mockup on the guitar.

I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing your math on how to calculate it yourself.

Also is there a way to calculate how much the string pull will bring the neck back up?

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I'm a little more than a little rusty with trig. I would have to dig the books out. I did notice his fret spacing doesn't jive with mine. Not sure why that is. Mine do pretty well match the Stew Mac calculator
