Alan, I hope you mean you can measure to 0.05mm not 0.5mm?

Most of you are probably carrying a perfectly suitable mic/audio analyzer hardware in your pocket! You can make a pretty accurate measure of fundamental modes with an app called fft by studio six digital (apple App Store).
It can get good measurements for fundamental body resonances and plate modes. There are others apps as well that would work and most only cost ten to twenty bucks.
