I noticed on frets.com site that Frank Ford wraps his fingerboard heating blanket with aluminum foil. Do you know the reason for this?
Thanks Enrico

No idea. In fact, I don't know of anyone else who does.

Ask Frank. I'm sure he would be happy to tell you. It's nice to have him hanging out here a bit.

Lots of us wrap the damp wood with foil to prevent spring steel slats from staining and corrosion. This may be what you are seeing.

I think Barry was thinking of the side bending blankets, which was my first assumption too, even though it says fingerboard in the post. I just jumped from seeing heating blanket to side bending.

As for why Frank does that, I have no idea.

If I were going to speculate (guess I am), it may be that Frank is simply doing it to protect his blanket from picking up contaminants (oils and possibly glue) from off the fingerboard. Wish I had thought of that before I used my wife's expensive iron to try and remove a bridge off one of my classicals. Got glue from tie block and stain from rosewood on bottom of iron. Hope my wife doesn't iron anything whiite for awhile, or I'll have some explaining to do. idunno

Fortunately irons are cheap. Better replace it stat before she irons something she likes. Then you be in it but good...
