Hello there, what do you consider the best glue to attach sandpaper to an MDF sanding board? Thanks

I used 3M spray adhesive on my mdf radius dish.

And you are satisfied, right? I am asking because I do not remember what I used on my last sanding board, but sandpaper did not attach very well. Thanks anyway. What about contact cement?

I've used contact cement several times and it has held great. I didtry spray adhesive once, but it lifted a little over time and is much more expensive.

I use Mirka Gold, 2 3/4" wide, self adhesive 80 grit sand paper, in a 60' roll. I just run strips side by side, letting the ends hang over about an inch. Then I trim around the dish with the box cutter. I use it for my sanding dishes, and my thickness sander drum. It is very handy to have around the shop. I buy mine locally, and have not used the link below. I included the link to give you a complete description. I pay $32.00 per roll locally, which is about $.50 per foot.

I buy the cheap Elmer's spray glue. It doesn't stick as strongly as the 3M stuff (spray 77 or spray 90) so it is easier to remove the sandpaper after it has been used up, with a little bit of lacquer thinner.

You can also give the part a coat or 2 of some kind of finish. I put a couple coats of poly on both sides and edges of my radius dishes and let it dry well. It also helps keep moisture out of them (just in case of a spill of some sort) You will most likely have to stick the paper on your jeans or something so it doesn't stick too well.

Contact cement for me. I usually use floor sanding paper and glue the same grit on each side. It's great for levelling sides.

I have used epoxy resin as well.

I use 3M's Super 77 spray glue, which functions as a spray contact cement. Warming the sandpaper with a heat gun makes it easy to remove.

I use this as well for all the sanding dishes I sell. I do put a few coats of finish on the MDF before applying the sandpaper. This is helpful if you think you may want to remove and replace the sandpaper some day.

James. may I suggest that you transfer your allegiance to the Klingspor Woodworking Shop in Raleigh NC http://www.woodworkingshop.com/ where you will obtain a superior quality of PSA , at a lesser cost, and they have a flat shipping rate of $7.00 plus a few cents, irrespective of weight.

I have tried all makes of abrasive and IMHO the Klingspor brand outperforms (and outlasts) all the others.

YMMV of course ...

I tried the website. I did not find the Klingspor gold in a self adhesive roll. Did I just miss it?

The Klingspor gold is cloth backed and is not in fact available in self adhesive rolls... the PSA rolls are grey aluminum oxide and are paper backed .

The shipping rate I mentioned above only applies within the USA btw.

I had a shipment of these rolls arrive last week ... parcel weighed 12lbs, contents cost $167.00, and Fedex shipping cost $179.00 ... ouch.
