No spalting , just ambrosia . The difference is that ambrosia is caused by the ambrosia beetle boring in the wood and leaving it's chemical signature that causes the coloring .
Spalting is caused by fungus .

Ooh, nice stuff! I particularly like the last two shots with the ambrosia spots and more consistent curl. Tempted for a harp guitar set... especially if I can keep that dark edge as a center stripe. Is that just heartwood?

That dark edge , if I am seeing this correctly , was the live , outer edge of the tree . There is no heartwood in this piece . I cut it out .
This is a loose wedge that did not fit my stacks and I wanted to see what was in there .
I have no doubt of there being harp sized material in my stacks .
Oh yes , this wood was milled in wedges and I am cutting blocks from the wedges , so the wood will be perfectly quartered . I will have some waste , but that is the price you pay for doing it properly .
I believe it to be red maple .

There is a third stack .
May even be a few archtops in there .
