Putting in an undersaddle pickup, and I use a wide saddle 7/32". I routed a 1/8 slot inside the wide slot to take the transducer, however I only left about. 025 of wood under the slot, and am concerned it may crack and sink into the spruce top under string tension. Then I talk myself out of it, thinking the cross grain spruce wont compress that much. Any of the repair guys see a saddle slot blow out the bottom before? Easy enough to whip up a new bridge, but dont want to fix a problem that doesnt exist...

Shouldn't be a problem. There have been a number of good guitars over the years built with 'saddle thru bridge' design.
The amount you left should workfine

Really? saddle right on the spruce? i suppose it would stabilize after some initial compression. tough to get a flat slot with a domed top though

Sounds like you have no problem! That is new info to me also. I usually end up with 1/8" under the saddle but it sounds optional.

Assuming your top is domed have you shaped the bottom of bridge to fit the the top .............?

I do shape the bottom of the bridge to match the top dome, I still have my bit of wood left after that, but was thinking it might disappear while I was grinding the bottom... when I drilled the little hole for the UST wire, I was able to see how much I had left...

Todd - many thanks for the math on that - answers my question precisely!
My UST footprint is only .095" x 2.5", so looks like I'm at about 564 PSI, but the Sitka can probably handle that.

Jason: If you only have .025 now, you will have nothing after you radius the bridge. Again the assumption of normal radius of 25-30 ft.

it's already radiused... so got off lucky, yes you are right, it would be sawdust if I hadn't done it yet
