I just reread T Kennedys post Aug 9 2011 'HG & frets.
It sounds like you have to be ready to clean up thoroughly after each fret.
But what kind of a syringe/needle can I use to fill the slot. Or can I thin the FG.
What about titebonds already mixed HG?

I use Titebond original for fretting. I just put a drop on my finger and run the bottom of the fret tang lightly across the drop until a thin line of glue is applied across the bottom of the tang. I haven't tried hide glue for fretting but I imagine this technique will work the same. Not much mess to worry with. Seems like filling a slot with glue would be very messy. The tang fills up most of the slot so you would get a great deal of squeeze out.

I've been using bottled Franklin hide glue in a 5cc syringe with an 18G needle to lay it in the slots. I've thought about using hot and just toss the syringe in the water bath between uses. That should work. Clean up is easy with wet paper towel. I usually let the neck sit overnight before doing the end bevels and any leveling.
Maybe it's between the ears but I've become convinced that filling the slots does good things for the tone of the guitar. Since hide glue dries hard, using it makes sense to me.
That syringe set Steve posted looks like the ticket. You may be able to buy some at the drug store too.

I gotta try the HHG method. Didn't know it was so easy to clean up. Good advice guys.

I used fish glue on my last fretboard, squeezing it from a ketchup bottle. It cleans up easily--just wipe with a slightly damp rag--and dries hard.

Another place to get cheap syringes and needles is a typical feed and grain store. Just sand off the sharp....and there you go.

Using Titebond you can just throw the whole thing into a jar of water to keep the tip from drying....though for frets you probably want to use something that will not shrink back as much as TB.
