John: To see who is the oldest............................and that's not me at 71. But I'm still the ugliest and meanest no matter what Filippo says, I'm at the top.......................................maybe with the exception of a couple of guys.

68 and working on my first build. At the rate I am going I will be in my 70s before I get it completed. As sad as that is it is OK with me as it is just fun.

Probably because Lance gave his age in his original post. And because reasons.

I thought it was because of the overwhelming urge to count annular rings in anything lutherie related. :o

Steve Curtis but to most it's just "hey you" and I turn around.
57 and I always try to never act my age.
Homeless at the moment.

To Fillippo and all others I must apologize for being such a lurker/non poster. Not looking for a free ride but just about everyone here has more experience, confidence and knowledge and says it so much better than myself....anyways will try to lift my game and become a more active poster in the future.

Steve

I'm with Steve on this. My knowledge after several instruments is still lacking compared to the experienced folks here. Last thing I want to do is lead somebody in the wrong direction on an instrument because I thought what I was doing is correct. I have shared a couple of pics of my work (nothing recently), but to be honest, when I look at the work from the guys on this forum, even the newer guys, not so sure I want to share.

I fully understand the tendency to read and not post. I used to think that my input was not necessary on different forums. I get that it seems like others will answer with better info and inexperienced input may be giving bad advice. I also saw a forum become kind of stagnant because it was the same people answering questions all the time and their motivation to do so began to decline. I finally decided that I am better off participating in the conversation at forums that I really like. For example here at OLF, I give input when I can but preface it with a disclaimer about my limited experience. Any bad advice I give out is quickly corrected by someone who knows better and I (and probably others) learn something. Sometimes it sparks an informative exchange that may have otherwise not happened. Who knows, someday one of my posts may give added value to the discussion in its own right.
Also I like to cut up with the funny threads from time to time. It allows me to “get to know” other posters personalities. . .
I am reluctant to post picture of my work here too because it is shamed by the level of excellence here. I try to get over that because I think it is comforting to others like me who haven’t built up their chops to know that not everyone here is putting out flawless works of art. The first time I went to a gathering of instrument makers, I brought an instrument but almost left it in the car. I was glad I bit the bullet and brought it despite its flaws. It was a great learning experience and a huge motivation to push on and try to improve.

I'm in my early 30's and am incredibly handsome -- bar none, the best looking luthier on my block. Even my avatar cat is distinguished and finely dressed...
