You ever rummaged through a construction dumpster looking for "Bracewood" to finish up a guitar you were working on at the time...

You have found "Brace wood Billets" on the side of the highway on the way to the dump....

You have ever Re-topped an Esteban guitar

You carry a crow bar and a stout hammer in case you happen upon a "Good" Pallet....

and yes... Just in case you were wondering....

If you have ever pulled a piece of the cedar paneling off of the wall of you own workshop to make a soundboard...

1. You save the old electric organ from church just to get the wood out of it.
2. You take it apart, only to find it was veneered poplar.
3. You save the pieces anyway, figuring you may some day find a way to to make an instrument out of veneered poplar.

Your father-in-law won't let you in the attic of his house, so you won't see the wood in the rafters.

You go shopping for household items with your wife and start to think about how you can use that clothes iron to remove a fingerboard, the crock pot to heat hide glue...

you try to persuade a vicar that he doesn't need so many oak pews in the church, they'd be much better as guitars. wow7-eyes

You pause and stare in unbelief every single time you walk past your parent's gigantic maple tree stump that they cut down before you were a luthier and marvel at the exquisite tight fiddle back around and through the entire tree (to the tune of 8 fiddles per inch) even down to the roots.

Must have been quite a fire.........ugh

The top on this is veneered poplar. I saved it for a year and a half.

I think it's lovely, and will make a pretty nice guitar.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I was starting to feel guilty for staring at the pews in my church...
NOT.

That's what I thought when I sanded this down...

I've also built a guitar out of a cutting board and a P bass from an antique pine table.
I'm always looking for wood I can "repurpose". Yeah, I'm a hack guitar builder, and loving it!

Oh, it's solid wood alright. Those rules are for the rest of us.

Periodically you will go through your wood stash just for the sake of admiring the different pieces - tapping, caressing, flexing, smelling...

It's been a tricky few years of collecting the odd sets and sneaking the expenditure past Mrs C.... Although about to get found out as need to add it to the insurance inventory! May have to use the old trick ' well it's worth that now, but it was soooo much cheaper when I bought it... Great investment really, honestly honey!' :D
