I'm about to start my second build and I've been listening to lots and lots of sound samples on the net looking for inspiration and I finally have found the exact match for the sound I hear in my head:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ir0mNSjym6I
http://www.arkneweraguitars.com/13.html

That's the ARK New Era version of the Bacon & Day Senorita. On their web-site they've listed pretty much all dimensions and materials and it seems to be somewhere between the Martin 000/OM and the Gibson J-185 body-size?

So now I've got the dimensions and materials but what about bracing, thicknesses and other construction details? Does anybody have good ideas how to achieve that bright, sharp, tight and powerful midrangy sound? It's brighter and spankier and maybe less woody than the scalloped rosewood Martins and it seems to have more mids and less bass? I would guess it's straight-braced and something like the vintage small-body Gibsons?

Any ideas?

Edit: Here's some clues about the bracing:

Smaller air volume, and build stiff and heavy with tall unscalloped braces tucked into linings. In other words, a small depth overbuilt guitar.

Come on!! It's recorded on cheap camera plus it's on Youtube so you can't expect perfect audio.

But I guess you're right that it's stiffer sounding than your average Martin. And that sounds good to my ear. Still it sounds like there's really nice texture to the midrange plus it sounds really responsive to the touch and that's something you don't usually hear on over-braced stiff guitars?

The first cut sounds tinny; the second one does not, to my ear. It's really hard for me to judge, especially with what seem to be indifferent recordings. If it were my project, I'd want to hear one in person.

Well, that's what they say. One man's bright, tight, and powerful is another man's tinny. laughing6-hehe

Tone is totally subjective... overbuilt/overbraced or stiff isn't a bad thing if that's what you like. Making it stiff without a lot of air volume is about turning the bass down... instead of powering fundamental bass response all that string energy goes to midrange and harmonics making a very bright, loud, cutting guitar.

That's just kinda how it is.
The tone I like is the best tone, all else is inferior.
My build method is the best, the others are problematic in some fashion.
My choices of tools are the correct ones.
:D
