I'm a great fan of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits, but I hadn't heard this song before. It's called Monteleone after the great archtop guitar builder. The chisels are calling...

I had the pleasure of spending some time with John Monteleone a few weeks ago at the A.S.I.A. Symposium. What a treat it was to have him play one of my guitars. You couldn't meet a nicer guy.

Wow, what a treasure for Mr. Monteleone.

Brilliant! In case you haven't already seen it, this thread has some pretty deep overlap with the one that Todd just started about why we build.

I spent an incredibly enjoyable afternoon at Monteleone's shop. An exceptional craftsman and great person.

Love the tune, and the record. I may be in the minority, but I think Mark Knopfler has never written better songs, played or sounded better than on his last few records.

I agree, Arnt. Sailing to Philadelphia and Shangri La are two of my favorites. I listen to them much more than Dire Straits.

Yep, sailing to Philadelphia is amazing. But then so is Telegraph road - I like them all!

I was actually mostly thinking about the 3 last albums; Kill to Get Crimson, Get lucky and Privateering... I love the direction his songwriting is taking now, he sounds both so relaxed and yet focused, the guitar is both loser and more refined than ever, he even sings better... Beautiful stuff!
