I am thinking about changing from a nut side adjustment truss rod install to a sound hole side. But I don't know much about that type of installation. Can anyone post some pictures of the body to show how the truss rod leaves the neck and enters the body? Also, is the truss rod installed flush to the fingerboard or is there a gap left so that the top slides between the truss rod and the fingerboard? Thanks.

Mine are close to flush. I cut a relief in the top for clearance for the adjustment nut.

I could go either way.

Frankly though, I too prefer the adjustment inside the body. Mainly because I like the look of the headstock without it better.

I also feel more comfortable making the headstock without a volute. I don't like the volute so much.

So how do you keep glue out of the inside of the body when gluing down the fingerboard extension with a body side adjustment placement?

Not being funny, but you don't need a lot of glue on a F/B extention, and so keep it away from the truss rod.
Or you can apply it to the guitar top, using masking tape over/around the slot (about 1/4" away) and then remove the tape after applying glue. I do the same around the F/B extention area to minimise any glue squeeze out clean-up.
Same idea as when gluing a F/B to the neck, cover the TR slot with 3/4" masking tape, apply glue all over, then remove tape, and fit F/B.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Not trying to pirate this thread, but I would also like to see some close-up photos, if anyone has some. So far I've stuck with classicals without truss rods, but would like to try a steel string. I like the soundhole adjustment approach, but I'm not clear about how the rod is anchored in the slot, and raddles are avoided.
