I am just about to install my rosette I posted a few days back and am starting to doubt my installation. How far away from the soundhole edge should I stay with my rosette? I originally was going to go with 1/4" away and backed out of that because it just seemed too far away for my taste. I thought I figured on 3/16" away but now that I have my rosette sitting on my soundboard it is only an 1/8" from the edge. Kind of seems like a pain to redo the rosette size but will try if 1/8" is too close. I like the looks of it close but is there some other issue with this that I don't know about. Sorry for such a rookie question on something that is probably very minor.

Oh and I plan adding purfling around the outside edge of the rosette by routing the channel after it is installed. Therefore all material will be taken from the rosette itself as I do not want to get any wider in either direction. It may be a tad wide as it is but I've grown to like it.

Whatever looks best. I like 3/16" or a bit less. It'll look slightly wide at first, but after you get the edge of the soundhole rounded over it's closer to 1/8" of flat wood before the rounding starts. But 1/8" total should be fine. Sometimes with more artsy designs that don't have a plain circle, I'll have some pieces go right to the edge and get rounded over as well. No rules :)

Looks pretty good to me. I think 1/8th is fine for wide rosettes like that. For line rosettes I go 1/4"
You could always cheat the sound hole size down a bit. Maybe split the difference and reduce the soundhole radius by 1/32"
