I was installing tuners today and since there was a recent thread on this I thought I'd shoot a short video.

I do the countersink before finish with the appropriate StewMac reamer on a drill press at slow RPM. My steps are-

Open up the backside with a 0.251 reamer (Thanks Todd)

Chamfer the edges of the bushing hole with a #11 blade or sandpaper on a small dowel.

Carefully ream out accumulated finish or pore fill with a hardware store reamer cut off at the appropriate level and beveled. Leave bushing 1/16 to 1/32 " proud.

Push bushing in with finger pressure and get a feel for tightness.

Final seating with a bushing tool.

This guitar had a catalyzed urethane finish which seems quite forgiving. Nitro is definitely more prone to chip or lift and I always have a syringe of retarder handy with a 25G needle to lay a bead on any worrisome area. The Cardinal product seems a little better.

Thanks for the quick tip. I will be installing a set of Grover Sta-Tites fairly soon and will make a tool to press the bushings in as shown in your video.
