I have a guitar that will be hopping the pond (Denmark) and need to ship it as affordably as possible. I have found USPS to be the most economical choice, but they only insure international shipments up to $600. Who do you use to ship internationally? If USPS, how do you insure it for its full value? Thanks.

Heritage is good but there is a $500 deductible.

Ken,
If you don't mind me asking, how much does heritage cost? And do you have to have a policy or can it be a one time use deal?

I work at USPS and also build guitars also. Been there 16 years and never had a guitar insurance claim. We have a few shops in town and they send them all the time. One of them does over a million dollars in sales a year. Davesguitars.com We take good care of guitars. As long as its in a case, and not moving around, it should be fine. My brother was in Afghanistan last year, and we shipped guitars over there, and it only took 6 days from Wisconsin to a base in Afghanistan. Humidity is 5% over there, and people still sent nice guitars over there. Crazy. You can also send a guitar Registered Mail. It is better taken care of, but might take longer; since its a hand to hand exchange. I am the Registered Mail clerk in my processing facility. I make sure all guitars are well taken care off in our office. Our foreign mail don't pay out for insurance due to the fact of foreign countries not paying OUR insurance claims. So we don't pay theirs. We put a limit on it. I would say, get the money first, then send a guitar. Or send half of it, then send the rest on delivery.
Alot of small buisiness people use USPS for shipping parts and lumber. I thank you all for doing that. Right now the USPS is going through so much political and crap. The workers are doing all they can. I might loose my job in LaCrosse Wi next year. I guess i'll just have to make guitars full-time. Jason
