Hi Everyone,
I hope that I am not posting to an incorrect area but I want anyone who is interested to see this. I am one of the nubies here. I work at the Woodcraft store in Knoxville TN and found the OLF thanks to Steve Smith and Greg Seigmunk(Clinchriver). I have been building electric guitars for several years and will be starting my 1st acoustic soon.
I have obtained permission from the store owner to use our classroom to host a luthier's group. I have been collecting names and contact info from customers that share this interest and will soon be sending emails to them. There is no cost involved. No dues, secret handshake, password or decoder ring needed. Just an interest in sharing your knowledge in instrument building.
This is an open invitation to all in the East TN area who would like to be involved. I have reserved the classroom for Feb 10, 2013 from 2:00PM-4:30PM. This meeting will be a meet n greet and discussion of how everyone would like to proceed. I am hoping for a mix of all styles and skill levels of builders, (acoustic, electric, bass, mandolin, etc). Everyone is welcome. Bring along one of your completed instruments to show off and discuss if you want to. You never know, some pickin' could break out.
If you are interested or have any questions or suggestions drop me a PM, email or contact me at the store, (865) 539-9330 . The store is located at 8023 Kingston Pike Knoxville, TN 37919. This is just east of West Town mall in the same plaza as Barnes & Noble.

Hope to see you there,

Paul

I don't think I have plans that weekend so I should be able to make it. I should have my latest bouzouki done by then and I'll bring it.

Darn Knoxville is just a little far for me! Maybe if this becomes a regular occurence I could plan to make one sometime in the future. Especially in a year or so, as plans are to move out that direction to the sparta area. At least thats a little closer.

As noted in the off topic thread, I'll be there too. Looking forward to seeing new and old friends. I'll probably bring my challenge special unless it's still in for surgery (neck thinning).

I look forward to meeting new friends at this gathering. If all goes well, I hope to have it on a regular basis, based upon the availability of the classroom.

The response to the meeting has been good. Looks like 10 + for sures so far. Have gone so far as to reserve the room for 3-10 for the second meeting. Also have a possible speakers lined up, one from a lacquer finishing suppliers and another from a exotic wood distributor. Will see what happens.

I plan to make it, as long as the weather isn't like it is today here in K-town! Can't even get to my driveway this morning the ice is getting so bad. As long as the power holds out it will at least give me a bonus day in the shop!

I agree Dave, not a good morning to be out in East Tennessee! I'm lucky I can work from home sometimes and that's what I'm doing today. Wood stove is nice and toasty and got a couple of dogs to keep my toes warm ;)

Y'all have fun

Hey East TN guys: I have a few sets each of Honduran mahogany and nice straight grain Honduran rosewood up for grabs. If anyone is interested I can bring them Sunday (if it's ok with Paul and Woodcraft to sort of make this a swap meet).

Yeah pretty funny they call it that! I guess "Alive at Four" doesn't have the cool rhyme like "Alive at Five". They decided to cover weather for the full hour and not have any music. pfft idunno

yeah - we watched the weather for the whole hour and were disappointed that there was no music. I just don't get much out of watching some talking head standing by the side of the road watching it snow or whatever. If you get another chance let us know.

Will do. Not sure we will be on WBIR any time soon, but we are getting a WDVX Blue Plate special lined up and will be playing at The Square Room, Fri. March 15th.

Thanks Dave! #3 and #4 dulcimers, the last dulcimers I will ever make. I priced them to sell, figure I could beg for money on the street and make more per hour than what I will get for them. The enjoyment and experience of building them was worth it though.

They seemed to be priced way too cheap to me, but they are certainly priced to sell! The last dulcimers I built was back in 75 or so, but I might do another one of these days. They are kinda fun.

I hope everyone enjoyed last week's Super Bowl festivities. Now it's time to get down to real fun, guitar building. The meeting is still a go for this Sunday, 02/10 from 2 til 430. I do have keys so if we are having fun there is no time limit.

I am gaining support from a few of our suppliers. Behlens Finishing has agreed to speak at an upcoming meeting about finishing and Cormark Lumber has also agreed to come by and discuss what woods are available, grading and alternative tone woods.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.
Gil, I have no problem if you bring that wood by.

I live 3+ hours away and rarely go to Knoxville. I'm building my first guitar now and would love to come hang out, but it just isn't in the cards right now. If there's another meeting (3/10 was it??), I will surely try to make it. Hope you guys have a great time and thanks for getting this together with the speakers and all. Good deal. [:Y:]
