For all you folks complaining 'bout not having powerful software to edit pictures of your guitar, now is your chance!

It sounds like Adobe is giving away Photoshop CS2 (most current version is CS6) for FREE. CS2 isn't the most powerful version of photoshop, but it will certainly get the job done.

I (or my wife, *cough*) found the story here: http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2013/01/grab-photoshop-and-cs2-for-absolutely-free-right-now/

The story links you here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?pid=4485850&e=cs2_downloads

The download site appears to be down at the moment, but I am sure it will clear up later today.

Thought ya'll might like to know.

I'm currently using CS6 for my photos but A free CS2 would be a no brainer. Just get it.

On the same adobe page is a download for Audition for anyone wanting the best program for FFT plotting of tap tones.

I think you meant "Audition", Fred.

So what is Audition? It has the spectral analyzer software? Does it average multiple samples ?

It should, yes.

Looks like the page is active now. Also, they are giving away the entire Creative Suite. This includes Illustrator, Premiere, Audition, etc.

Audition is a full fledged multi-track audio editing program similar to Pro Tools. It has lots of analysis capability and some great built in editing for removing anomalies, as well as all of the effects, etc required for professional recording and mastering.

I downloaded Audition.

It won't let me install the software without a serial number, normally included with the software box.

Software companies sometimes don't sell cd's or disks anymore, they sell a download license.

Apparently this is a backdoor link to the download page.

Anybody been able to install anything successfully?

The serial numbers are on the page, right next to each installer link. I've got Photoshop and Premiere done, now downloading Audition bliss

Many thanks for the heads up on this, Marcus [:Y:]

It'll get the job done, but it's a little on the ridiculous side and total overkill for basic editing of photographs. Illustrator's the fun option for designing guitars in 2D, since vector based is what you want there..

Yup...no-go on Macs after OS Lion (no hooks in the OS for the PowerPC code). Fortunately, have CS6 on the Win7 PC...unfortunately, it's a Win 7 machine.

Just commenting on my aversion to Windows/Window machines (Windows 8 has one window...so really 'Window 8' or 'Window Ate (All My Other Windows)')...

Also...should have said 'no-go on Macs with Lion or later'...Rosetta support removed with Lion, so PowerPC software lost default support.

Sorry fellas, I wasn't aware of that it doesn't work with newer Macs.

Also, as it turns out. It wasn't Adobe's intention to give the software away for free (see quote from adobe below). However, the website is still live, sitting there with Download links with valid serial numbers next to them, on Adobe's own servers. I found this out last night and figured someone of you may want to know.

Quote:
You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2!

What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don’t require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available. (Special serial numbers are provided on the page for each product download.)

You are only legally entitled to download and install with that serial number if you have a valid license to the product!

How strange! They put it out on the public web, add the serials, allow anybody to download, then say you cannot do it. That's gonna work.

Weird. You look at all the posts on the web since then and it says Adobe shut it down. But it is clearly not shut down. I do not get it. What are they up to? Publicity?
