Anyone know where I might find a bone saddle blank at least 5.25" long, preferably 5 3/8"? Doodling up harp guitar designs and it would be nice if I could do the saddle in one long piece instead of splitting it between standard and sub bass strings.

they sell bleached cow femur segments that are longer than that at pet stores, for dogs to chew on.....seriously.
kind of a hassle to cut up though. i have used it before, and looks and acts (and smells)just like guitar nut blanks

I too have use the pet store variety of bone. It works find. I use it to make a piece of flat/wide piece of bone I glue on the bottom of the bridge plate and drill through for the strings. Works great

I have never seen cow bones for dogs to chew on at the pet store here. All they have are bone meal (powdered bones) that has been pressed into the shape of bone for dogs to chew on.

If you really need that and don't want to cut up bone yourself, contact Christie Soong @ christie@chrislintrading.com.
It might take a little while to get it, but she can deliver the goods. Ask for it over-sized though. Bone can warp a bit, so better to make it too big in all directions just in case.

I need longer saddles for my harp guitars. I cut 2 saddles at an angle and super glue them together then sand and cut to length. Works for me.

Thanks. I had considered doing that, but wasn't sure if it would hold together strong enough for the sanding. I'll probably just do that on the first one, and then go with Chrislin for the future, since I could use some bridge pins too if they have 3 degree unslotted.

Want me to order some extras and pass them along to you, or are you happy with your gluing method?

Nice idea on the pet store bones from everyone else. I might give that a shot too and see if I can cut it wet to minimize the stink. But probably too much of a pain to do routinely. Guess it depends on how many saddles I can get per bone.

You can buy cow bone online from Petsmart. They're about 6 inches long. $5.00

There are no petsmart in Taiwan... like I said I looked at local pet stores, all they got are processed crap, no solid cow bones.
