I'm not sure that this is common knowledge, but the polls we conduct appear to be open to the public in the sense of allowing guests (e.g., those not logged in as members) to vote. This would imply that folks could garner considerable non-OLF participation in a poll by asking their friends, acquaintances, etc. to drop by this site and vote.

I'll leave it to others to determine if this is always desirable, sometimes desirable, or never desirable....just thought it was worth mentioning.

I think we're all locked down now.
Fillippo gave me some tips today and from my end it seems to be fixed.

How many votes came from outside OLF? Is this a reasonable concern?

Mike

I'm sure this can be figured out in the inner workings of the forum, I will say tho, that it's over my head. I will poke around and see if I can find anything.

Geez, I was going to get ALL my friends to vote for Tony.

But then I decided that two votes probably wouldn't help all that much.....

cheers. :| :D

Lance,

I don't have a dog in the fight. In fact it took me all day to figure out what this was about. Just wondering. I wouldn't dig into this unless some of the interested parties cared.

How about only the builders in the challenge, done or not. get to vote. And you can't vote for yourself. We know who were in the challenge. Send a msg. reply in the next week. and be done with it. Ifs its a tie, leave it to lance or the prize maker.

I thought the point was for the community to vote. And participants, as members of the community, can vote for anyone they want, including themself :) At least, that's how we did last time, and it seemed to work well. Otherwise it seems a little exclusive to the rest of the forum. Especially those who have been following and commenting on the builds since the beginning.

Guest/non-builder votes are a bit more iffy, but it doesn't bother me as long as no one goes campaigning for large numbers of people who will vote for them without considering the others. But I don't think there's much danger of that.

Making non-builders sign up before voting seems kind of annoying, but is probably better to prevent multi-voting, which would only need one troll to make us have to redo the whole thing.

It looks like the changes you made have stopped some pictures from showing up unless one is logged in. On the wood i.d. thread this message showed up :

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

When I logged in I got the picture... I believe this is something new.

I've enjoyed being able to view posts (including pictures) without having to log in. It's one of the things that keeps me dropping by here so often.

+1 definitely........I think it's important to all that guests be able to see the pics!

Looks like one needs to be logged in to use the search function. I use search often, rarely post, so I'd prefer the search to be available without logging in. Having to login would make visiting the site less convenient.

Fascinating. When I log in, check the box that says to keep me logged in. If I have to log in maybe once every 3-4 weeks I'd be surprised. It just remembers me. Does it not work that way for you guys that have OLF accounts?

Anyway looks like a bit more permissions tweeking is necessary. Guests should be able to view ... just not post.

Filippo

that works fine for me too, but only on my computer. when i get on from my phone which i do far more often, because i can whip it out on the go and when i get downtime at work, i have to log in each time if i want to make a post, or look at pictures now.

Holy cow, I am just seeing this and the actual poll and I did not realize that I was up there and even contesting. First let me say that I am honored and honestly quite humbled by the amount of votes I got especially considering the fine crowd of artisans that took place in this challenge.

Second, I always thought it was for forum members only too. In fact the few people I told about this contest, just a few family members and a few friends, I told that they cannot and should not vote since it's a members only thing.

Surely there must be a way to identify the voters by name on this forum. And of course if there are 20 members with 1 post that voted then well... :D LOL gaah

Anyway this is all in good fun and it's really been a good time to watch all these builds come together. Best part about it is that we are all winners because we get to add one more fine instrument to our corrals.

Zeke that's a bummer on the phone. Have you installed Tapatalk? Many of us use that on the phones and it keeps you permanently logged in.

One thing that happens to me whenever I am anywhere on the forum other than the guitar building page is when I back out of a post, the page needs to be refreshed. Is that a forum setting or something on my computer?
