I've only used this to cut binding channels in 2 guitars, so it hasn't had much use. This morning, whenever I turned it off, the bit would stop spinning and then after it sounded like it was off it sounds like a fan comes on. Even if I unplug it, it continues to run for a while. It did it right away, so it wasn't even warmed up from cutting yet. I decided to go ahead and use it anyway, and after using it to cut most of the top binding and purfling channels it quit doing it. It's too new for brushes to be worn, and besides, this was coming on after it was off. And if it were brushes, wouldn't the bit be coasting to a stop instead of stopping right away. Really weird.

If I had any router that came on after I turned it off, it would be; "Scotty, get us out of here" time. And I would'nt get it near a guitar. Can you take it back?

I am fairly sure Ridgid tools have a lifetime warranty.

Double check that it is not just the bearing continuing to spin after the bit has stopped. I had the same concern and that was the problem...

I had an experience with the warranty on a shop vac. it is not too great if you have to use it.

Sounds like the guide bearing spinning on. Try it with a plain bit (or no bit) and see what happens.

The router was not actually on, the bit had stopped spinning, the bearing was not spinning. After everything had stopped it was like a little fan motor came on. It almost sounds like when my laptop gets hot and the little cooling fan comes on. I hadn't even made more than a small test cut, so it could not have been hot. The strangest thing is that it continues after I unplug it. Anyway, it has stopped doing it and there never seemed to be any danger. It was mounted in my Williams style binding jig so it wasn't going to take off across the table or anything. It worked perfectly the rest of the morning. I think I'll call Ridgid next week and ask them about it just out of curiosity. I'll ask them about the warranty too. I take it nobody else here has had this experience with the Ridgid trimmer?

Thanks Todd. I got it at Home Depot. I'll take it in after everyone is done with their holiday shopping madness. I'm not going near the place now. They're usually pretty good about exchanges, but I got it at least 1 1/2 years ago so I don't know. At least it is working fine now.

I have two of the Ridgid laminate trimmers. It is my favorite router. I have had nothing like you describe happen with either. I had a warranty issue with my Ridgid drill. Aside from having to take it to a service center 50 miles away and go back in ten days to get it, the warranty service was no problem.

The first rigid laminate trimmer I bought would just shut itself off, bad switch, must have skipped the Chinese QC department!! laughing6-hehe
took it back to Home Depot and got another which I have used for 2 years with no problems...

You mean there is NOT supposed to be a minor demon bound to our service within each portable power tool?

Maybe yours can have one, I can see that.

They have a "Life Time Service Agreement". And you had better have registered it.
