I am upgrading my finishing setup and have just purchased a Walcom EGO HVLP gravity gun. I would like to use either the Dekups or PPS system but it appears only PPS has an adapter for my gun.

My question is what size/type cups do I need? I'm thinking the standard mini (6 oz) should be plenty but would like to hear from those using the system. My understanding is that you can store the product in the cup between sessions (do any of you do that?) so would the medium size be better? I plan to spray varnish to start but have sprayed shellac and EM 6000 in the past and will probably do so again.

Does anyone have a favored online supplier - I've been looking at Homestead Finishing.

Any other comments are welcome.

Yes, you can store the finish in the cups between sessions. They come with caps. The small cup is large enough for one coat on a guitar but not much more. The bigger cup would be less restricting, but then they are larger and heavier so this makes the gun heavier and more cumbersome.

I use the 6 ounce cups. I buy them locally from a auto body paint and supply store that's ran by a friend of mine. I suspect TCP Global would have the best price online.

Thanks Barry. I went ahead and ordered the 13.5 oz midi kit. I'm sure looking forward to not having to clean out the cup!

Woody, I ordered before you posted. I suppose if I don't like the 13.5 oz midi size then the next time I'll get the 6 oz minis.

FWIW, I use the 9oz DeKups size and it's just right for me, but I only use it for clear coats (I spray sunbursts with a Devilbiss EGA and there is no DeKups for that). If you're just spraying clear, 13oz is probably the right size. 6oz would seem too small. I would personally choose the 13.5 over 6 if you're mainly spraying clear. The nice thing about these systems is you can get the smaller cups for shading if you want to. I think you made the right choice.

Thanks John. I'm spraying clear so I feel better about the larger size now. I'm looking forward to using a decent gun with the disposable cups in my new mini spray booth.
