I haven't had any issues. Its a static cling deal, no adhesives. But I suppose if the finish was really fresh it could cause a blush.

I've used a couple of brands of the static cling pick guards. They definitely damage nitro. I think a plasticiser or something (someone, maybe Al Carruth, once suggested it was silicone) migrates over, which gives a blistered look to the finish. It doesn't cause flaking or anything; the finish just seems to swell locally and it doesn't go away.

I haven't found a brand yet where the maker is prepared to guarantee that they won't damage nitro. It doesn't need to be new nitro, either.

I can fix that. Plenty of websites sell vibrating gizmos. Add some duct tape, and the iPad is now a ToneRite.
