This is a cross post from AGF however I'd love the opinions of builders here.

Does anybody think there is any demand for one piece backs or are we now so used to the book match that it would be simply undesirable?

I'm speaking about "The Tree" specifically. It's not a question of yield with this board, I may have an orphan slice so it might actually increase the yield. I just don't know if anyone would prefers the natural quality that this would offer.

I think it would be cool. But I'm not that bright.

Thoughts?

Doubt anyone will complain about a one piece back from The Tree.

Would you build a one piece back if it were "the tree"?
I would.

I would build with a one-piece back (or top) any time the opportunity presents itself.

I think it would be pretty cool. I built a guitar with a one piece side(s) and while no one would ever notice or care I thought it was pretty neat. It's unique to have suitable guitar wood that big so it would be a unique thing.

I can see people in mortal fear trying to bend one piece side for both sides of a Quilted Mahogany guitar.

Hibdon Hardwood often has Mahogany sets with a 1-piece backs in stock. I've seen a guitar made from one of their 1-piece back (a Collings) and it was very nice.
