Rod Schenk descends from a long line of woodworkers and engineers, so he hit the ground running, so to speak, when it came to building guitars, ie he probably was able to suss out the answers to many frequently asked questions simply by using his own analytical powers, which IMO is one of the hallmarks of the true craftsman.

I think the fact that he sold his second ever guitar for in excess of $5000 is what sticks in the craw of many people ...why, I don't know.

It may just be that some people have an innate talent for building guitars just like some people have an innate talent for playing them. Like, no matter how long or how hard you practise, you are never going to reach the level of playing of Tony McManus, are you? It's a gift ...

So maybe Rod Schenk is the Tony McManus of guitar builders ...

One thing I can say for sure is that Rod Schenk is an extremely pleasant person to deal with, I had occasion to phone him a couple of months ago, and he could not have been more helpful (and he didn't know me from Adam)

Another thing I can say for sure is that any builder who succeeds in getting his guitars into the hands of world class players such as Vince Gill, Franco Morone and Tim Thompson is a talent to be reckoned with.

He talks the talk, for sure, but he undoubtedly walks the walk.
