I'm in too. I have a commish i'm doing at the same time. Nothing to loose, why not. I wanted to try a side-by-side build once. Sounds like fun. Jason

Wait, we can talk trash? Can we still talk trash if we have no skills and know we will not finish? I hope so, because I love to talk trash when I can't back it up!

Is that all?

beehive

I'd love to, but with two other projects that need completion by/before then, it would be rather difficult. Can they extend the time out a little farther?

Fillipo....

Your thinly disguised insinuation that 1/4"+.125+.0625 does not equal half an inch has pushed me over the edge! I'm in, either an unabashed AJ style guitar with the ugliest set of wood I possess, or more probably an imitation of the Lowden 0-22 that was on my bench yesterday, which I accidently mapped and photographed the bracing from....

Okay today is the last day to sign up for the OLF Challenge 2. We need more people. The trash talking has already begun and a few of us are guaranteed to embarrass ourselves. Several times.

So please join. If you are unsure whether you should sign up and build an instrument between now and end of November, consider this questionnaire:

1) Are you convinced that your instruments are not as good as they should be? Y/N

2) Do you forget to brush your teeth when you head to your shop first thing after getting up in the morning? Y/N

3) Do 1/4" + 0.125" + 0.0625" in some circumstances add up to 1/2", and you're sticking with that answer? Y/N

4) Are you willing to build in a competition where you will spend 100-150 hours working on an instrument so you can compete against a hawty NewYawker, a couple of paired up builders and a few other questionable characters to win a measly chisel made of damascus steel which is likely to be so aesthetically ornate as to compel you to leave it as tool jewelry and never chisel a chip? Y/N

5) Are you already inundated with existing commitments which make signing up for this event question your dubious wisdom? Y/N

If you answered Y to 2 out of 5 of these questions, or N to 2 out of 5 of these questions, then what we know is that you can count to 2. So with this knowledge in hand it stands to reason that you should sign up for the OLF Challenge 2. Just head on over to that forum and start a thread by COB today!

Filippo

Where does that link go? I don't see a page of rules just a list of a bunch of threads. Sounds like it could be fun but I don't know if I could do that by the end of November and if a commission came up it would be all over.

Don, the rules are already in place; and I didn't even make them!

We are know about that huge pile of zoot you've got sitting there - a golden stash. Certainly you can pile on one more instrument to be built in a scant three month timeframe! :-)

Filippo

Rumors of the value and quantity of my wood stash are greatly exaggerated.
That said, I have some scraps that I've been wanting to turn into a Size 5 Terz for awhile now, and I suppose I might squeeze in one more. I can try. I'll have to see just how much scrap stuff I have hanging around. I have some Grover Sta-tites that I bought really cheap awhile ago, and most everything else is all cut-off stuff, so falling into that budget would be easy. Except for the case.
Considering it...

Can the scraps be Brazilian RW? Literally, they cost me nothing. Complete leftovers...

Fellas,
The rules are in the first post of this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=37186&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=0

Don, there are no restrictions on materials for this round, just the amount you paid for it.

I guess Filippo beat me by a minute. [headinwall] :D

Well I'm far from being competent enough for this challenge given the talent pool however, I will throw my hat in the ring so I can embarrass myself in front of my peers. It's kind of like golf (which I don't really play) when you don't hit your tee shot past the women's tee box "@#ck out"...oh yea I've been there!

I'm in with a Christmas build for my niece.

Well, count me in since today, since tomorrow I can't sign up! Hopefully I will be able to get it done. Fat chance...but I'll try.

I actually have a piece of Black Acacia left over from a project - a cutoff, due to a huge knot going through that end of the board. But, what figure in the two slices I got off of it.

What's your take on that with some redwood for a top?

Yes sir, we are. Maybe I'll actually post some pics here of my other current projects in a thread as well.

Yeah, fellas, go ahead and jump in. Joining late isn't going to hurt anyone but yourself, so that's not cheating. :)
