The guy next to me in Philly had this at his table. Anyone know what it is? It has a celluloid fretboard and a zero fret. the inlays in the purflings appeared to be celluloid as well. The bridge looked out of place because of the color but I saw no signs it had been replaced.

I thought it was German as well. One dealer thought Japanese, but I don't see anything that would make me think that. The zero fret says European to me. The owner thought it was Italian, and he had a point that the bindings and purflings were a bit hinky and not typically what one would expect from a German guitar. Thought someone might recognize the crest on the tailpiece. here is a better pic of it.

Hoi, I am German...and into guitars...a lot.
I am not sure if this is a Hoyer, Klira, Hopf, Höfner, Framus or so. I will ask in our forum www.gitarrebassbau.de
Could also be Italian like for example Eko or so....

Hmm. When I saw this post I thought I'd seen the inlayed purfling somewhere. That was a month ago...

Well, I stumbled on it again so I had to revive this thread. Take a look at this 1949 Migma Aschado and see if you think it's a match with this guitar.

Hmmm. Very close, but that guitar is definitely a better quality build. The bindings on it are done much better than the one I saw. I would say that is the guitar these folks copied perhaps.
