The newest Luthier Tips du Jour instructional video is on Youtube. The topic is meet the player Steve Devries, This is part II of an interview with Steve at the Healdsburg Guitar festival where we discuss what actually makes a guitar marketable. Part II deals with amplification for acoustic instruments. This is valuable information for all luthiers making instruments for sale. Subtitles are available in both English and Portuguese and you can translate them into any other language by using the CC option on Youtube.
As always, comments and discussion are welcome.
Enjoy!

Thanks Robbie. This is a good series of interviews. I look forward to #3. I just finished a headstock design so I am anxious to hear what Steve has to say.

Great stuff Robbie and important too -
I was just at Destroyallguitars yesterday and as its the first time Ive visited the place... I was astounded to see the range of different takes on what the customer is interested in from the luthiers point of view... mind you there are more elec than acoustic there, however there are both..
There are some instruments there that while , they may be the best sounding instrument in the world you kinda scratch your head and go who and the hell would play that??!?!?!?!, while you have others re-inventing the wheel - more strat clones, more tele clones, more LP clones,.... albeit they are providing a service, in that when I was 16, I could get a 1969 mild flame LP for $1000.00 CDN - whereas now forget it, never mind anything prior to 69....
Thats just kooky talk...
Anyhow it begs the question - can you improve upon the sound of instruments that have been already made... ??? ....
Many of us hear have heard that odd example of instrument that just blew us away, but usually you just dont have the opportunity to sit down and examine them thoroughly - Im sure the folks who frequent the guitar show curcuit or at least thier local guitar trade shows... have heard more of these examples...
We all have our favourite model and builders - also - but usually a luthier starts to gain some success after years of chugging away at it - are our tastes dated by then?, are we just a bunch of outta touch fogeys talking about the good old days?
LOL
Food for thought pizza or the ramblings of an idiot - you decide!
Cheers
