I would like a black neck on a classical I am building for myself. Any advise on staining or dying a neck black on a Spanish style heel where the guitar is assembled before the neck is carved? Thanks, Wendy

It would be less problematic if you used a dovetail or other separate Neck joint. I've stained Necks Black but only on Romantic Guitars, where the Neck is not an integral part of the box. I use Indian ink for the stain and protect it with Shellac or a finishing oil.
Using a Spanish heel I'd be tempted to finish shape the entire heel and stain it before assembling the Body. Maybe put a few sealer coats of Shellac on it. You can leave the rest of the Neck in block form. Leave as little work as possible on the Side/Heel junction, so virtually finish sand the Sides before assembly - at least where they go into the heel.
