Here's the latest creation from my shop. Delivered it yesterday to a very excited owner. It's based off of a Gibson J-185, has a florentine cutaway, small armrest bevel, and very light bracing.

Honduran Mahogany for back and sides
Lutz spruce for a sound board
Ziricote for the fretboard, bridge, and other appointments
Flamed maple binding

Wow, just beautiful Jeremy! Is it a true flat top? Looks that way in the photos.

I really like how the bevel blends in with the binding and doesn't detract from the guitar in general. Very nicely done!

Must be a trick photo, the top actually has a 25' radius to it.

How do you do a 25' top radius without the gap at the fingerboard extension? I always had to fight this problem and really racked my brain over it...

Nice one! How does it sound?

The pictures don't show it, but the fret board over the body does have a slight taper. That helps bring the strings down at the bridge so I don't have a 1" high saddle.

Beautifully executed in every way!! I also like the soundboard purfling and how the bevel doesn't take over visually. I'm going to try a couple more 12 fretters soon, I really like the sound of the "0" size one I did a couple of years ago. I'll look up the specs of the J-185.

Sure, It starts with the internal heel block. I use the cantilevered block method that brings the top of the block almost to the soundhole, this supports the whole fretboard as it sits on the body. The top is radiused to 25' but that block cantilever is sanded flat. That way when the top is glued down that part is flat while everything around it is at the 25' radius. That's important otherwise you have to match that radius to the underside of the fret board. The fretboard is attached to the neck and from there it's just doing a neck angle that lines you up with the bridge height you want. Plan on having around 1-1.5mm gap by the heel while the fret board touches by the sound hole. Don't forget to account for that gap above the bridge, otherwise your bridge and saddle will be too low. Scribe that 1-1.5mm along the side of the fret board and shave down to that line. Finish up by flossing the contact zone for a flush fit.

That's it.

Very nice. Can you explain that bridge? Is that just a well picked out and crafted sap/heartwood combo or is it laminated?

That's just a laminated piece of Ziricote and Maple.
