I received an email today from a guy (maro buenrostro - amzrosewood @ hotmail dot com) who was posting pictures lifted right off the Allied Lutherie specials page. I've hear of a guy selling BRW with a similar name, but to me, anyone showing pictures from someone else's inventory is probably a thief. Does anyone know if this is the guy who is providing wood to Allied, or am I correct in my assumption that this is a scam?

I replied to him that I noticed that the pictures seemed to be lifted right off the Allied website, and he emailed back that he and Todd Taggert were partners with the venture. I'm waiting to hear from Todd before rushing to judgment...

I did a search and found this...have a look at the third person profiled in the first row on this page:

http://www.alliedlutherie.com/allied_forces.htm

Not sure what to make of it, but it MAY corroborate his story...

Yes it does, but I have to question why they're all doing their own thing with the wood. He probably should have mentioned in the email that he was working with Allied on this and was offering a volume discount via email, perhaps.

So I guess the conclusion is that it's not a scam, but just a poorly executed marketing plan.

He's for real. He sent me some sample fingerboards awhile back and did say he was working with Allied.

I got the same offer, he said if I only wanted one set, he is Allied's supplier, and buy from Allied, if I wanted quantity, he's my man.
He said it on the internet, so it has to be true, right?
I passed his email on to Todd.

Thanks for weighing in guys. I'd hoped that I just misunderstood the initial email. I prefer to think the best of folks, but we've seen in recent years where people have used pictures from other people's sites to sell fictitious wares. I'm glad I was wrong and that he's legit.
